Crews are installing vehicle detection loops as part of the safety upgrades at all 21 at-grade crossings. If the loops detect a vehicle in the crossing, it will prevent the exit crossing gates from lowering to allow the vehicle to safely leave the grade crossing, and also change the motorman signal to let the light rail train operator know when it is safe to proceed.
